Google Offers A Chance To Grab Google Glass For Public
Bangalore: The tech giant, Google has launched a new ‘competition’ that allows non-developers to have an experience on the company’s upcoming Internet-enabled device, Google Glass.
Initially, the prototype ‘Explorer Edition’ of the networked specs was made available only to the developers, immediately after its launch at Google I/O conference last year. Now, the first time ever Google is allowing the non-developers to get their hands on the device, with 8,000 of them obtaining the golden opportunity for free, according to ZDNet reports.
To get hold of the free grabs, the company asks people to post their opinions on social networking sites such as Twitter and Google+ about how they would use the glasses if they were given a set. Besides, Google has also asked the participants to label their ideas which shouldn’t be longer than 50 words, with the hashtag, #ifihad glass. In addition, the participants are also allowed to use upto five photos and a video up to 15 seconds in length.
The applications will be open till 27 February and the company will gift their product, Google Glasses to the competition winners through a lucky-draw game in New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles. The competition will be open to those above the age of 18 residing in U.S. and they would be offered to try out the glasses before they start off with the general sale. The company hasn’t confirmed the dates of availability, but it’s believed that the product would reach the markets by until atleast 2014.
Reportedly, those winners at the competition would have to spend $1,500 to get their Explorer Edition of Google glasses.
In order to jazz up the event, Google has released a new YouTube video demonstrating the user, interface, headset features and experience of using the product. The video demonstrates Google Glass in action and conveys that users will be able to take photos and record voice commands like “OK Glass record a video”.
